The PELCRA project was originally launched in 1997 by the Department of English Language at the University of Łódź and the Department of Linguistics and Modern English Language at Lancaster University. The main focus of the project is the compilation of Polish and English modern language corpora for research and applications in the area of language teaching, translation, lexicography and language processing.
The project is now continued by the Department of English Language at the University of Łódź. Since the onset of the project, the activities of PELCRA have been geared towards the collection of corpus data, including a reference corpus of native Polish and a Polish Learner English Corpus (learner data from a range of learner styles at different proficiency levels). Over the last decade, the PELCRA corpus resources have found applications in academic and technological research, and members of the PELCRA team have successfully incorporated those resources in a number of projects.
